Children's vs. Spotted

mklmachines Jan 26, 2007 01:20 PM

I am real interested in acquiring some children's pythons but as hatchlings I have a hard time distinguishing spotted and children's. Can any post pics and the two and tell me what the differences are so that I could tell them apart. As Adults I am certain I can tell them apart. I also know that there is a light phase that exists and the spotted have the cape york.
thanks,
Joe Acosta

as hatchlings... maybe size as spotteds are a little bigger than children's. As adults telling them apparent it pretty easy as children's python are also called "fading python" because they lose their spots as they get older and Spotted pythons always keep thier spots. And agian, size. I don't personally own any children's pythons but I do have 2 spotted pythons. My male is het.granite and my female's pretty much "normal", cleaner looking than my male.

2nd pic female
you can also do a google search as well;here's a pretty good site.

From what I've seen, and I think it's evident in the photos of the Spotted posted by Black_Wolf, that the spots on a Spotteds' pattern seem a bit more fused together. Where are you planning to get your python from? If you are worried about being sold a Childrens by accident when you wanted a Spotted or vice versa, I think the you wouldn't have to worry about that when buying from the guy @ tinypythons.com or the guy @ Isis Reptiles (on KS.com's main page breeders directory). I got my Childrens from Isis.

Well, here is a childrens python from VPI lineage compared with a Cape York Spotted, respectively. The differences are pretty obvious in pure species, but many have been crossed, and look like intermediates of the two. Mine are as pure as they come.

That Childrens is really nice, I need some of those someday. I am hoping to get eggs from my Cape Yorks this year, I think all the smaller Pythons are very under rated. Tom Stevens

Wow Justin
Those spotteds are nice. I remember Ben telling me you guys were getting some and I wasnt all that interested b/c Im not particularly a big fan of the spotteds. But Ive never seen some like yours. Thanks for igniting an interest.

For all of you who like childrens here is a female that Justin produced from his VPI line of childrens. Ive raised this girl from a baby. She started out with spotts like most do and she has faded really well. I treasure her the most out of all my animals. She is an angel. Thanks for such a beautiful animal Justin.
