I know you probably did everything right but I like to use my home made snake hook but accidents do happen. Isopropyl alcohol (rubbing) will cause an instant release of the snake from the fumes but never pour on head just a whiff and they will let go immediately (Red-Tailed Boas by Aller, Bayless, and Campbell). I always use hand sanitizer religiously, never feed when they are opaque (can't see good and will be defensive) because I transfer to feeding tubs and I don't want that either and if they are moody my snake hook for the initial overture. It would be cool to post a pic in three days or so if you didn't mind.

I've got a girl that goes nuts when she smells rats. Kinda scares me, She strikes the front of her enclosure with any movement, so now at feeding time I carefully lob a rat in her direction with tongs and cover the front of the enclosure with a towel. I hate getting bit, mostly because I know what they eat and figure their teeth are like tiny biohazard weapons.

my big girl got me a few months ago,

1 because i had fed another snake a rat and i had the scent on me.

2 i walked past the rat cages and she snapped....

wasnt as bad as your bite, and wasnt as bad as i would have thought. but she snapped and let go...

after that it made me think more of what i was doing, so now i make sure i wash and sanitize my hands, boas dont seem to like the smell of hand sanitizer, corn snakes dont like the smell either but seem to get snippy about it.

They sure look nasty when they bleed like that don't they. That second shot is neat, shows the dental pattern nicely. Careful near your eyes people...

well accidents do happen, but if you train your snakes to eat in the cage and come out on a hook the likelyhood of this happening again is very low. Something to think about. You never have to handle a hungry boa, you are doing that by choice whether you realize it or not.

Good luck,
Caden
