Is it too late ?

az_gunner Jan 27, 2007 01:54 AM

Is it too late to put a pair (of boas) together?

I have a big female that I didn't pair up, because the male I have, (IMO) was just too young/small.

I have a chance to get a male that is deffinitely old/big enough. However, if it's too late to go this season, I may as well stick with the male I have now. He's borderline now, but will be plenty big enough next season.

My other concern with getting the other male is quarantine. To put him in at this time of year, doesn't leave much, if any time for a quarantine. I have good reason to trust the source of the new male.

This is not a high dollar pairing BTW, but not common BCI either.

What do you think?

A few pairings are just starting out now. Breeders like Rob Tudehope once told me he didn't even begin introductions on alot of his boas until January. I plan on pairing up another couple by the end of next week. These two have been at it since November (the male went to work only 48 hours after being shipped to me...I puchased him from John Lokken so I was reasonably secure that he was coming in clean)

All you can do is put them together and see what happens. If it is right they will go to work. They know better than we do if they should or shouldn't breed. Good luck

Especially with BCC. I just put a Jim Peters male with a female yesterday. He went to town. I have noticed with my red groups that they breed later in the breeding season. Definitely try now you probably will get good results if they were maintained good throughout the year.
