My Collareds will not eat anything that won't move, even dead crickets, they'll sit and wait for it to move and then pounce on it like a cat

I know John-C (perhaps he will answer this as well). He has a mix of foods, and lean ground turkey (slightly browned) is added to all his lizard foods. I know his collareds eat it, as most of his other species as well. Hopefully he'll chime in and give out his secret recipe.

Hi Gang,
Been busy with post brumation for most of my zoo ... lol.
Yes indeed I feed most of my omnivores and insectivores
the infamous 'turkey salad'.
As most of you know my lizards consists mainly of uromastyx
and several chuckwalla.
So I find it easy to prepare a tub of greens and various veggies
for them which consists of collard, mustard and turnip greens.
Added to this chopped salad is yel squash, extra carrots,
thawed frozen veggies, hibiscus and rose petals which bloom
almost year round here. Added to the mix is some calc/vits once
or twice weekly. For the chucks I often add fruit like strawberry and banana. My gallotia are spoiled as they also go nuts for some strawberry and banana peach yogurt now and then.
For the insectivores and omnivores I take a portion of this
salad and add some lightly browned lean ground turkey,
tofu, and boiled egg. I often try new additives to see who
likes a change now and then.
Not all jump in to the turkey salad with all fours but most love
the change of pace from the usual insect/worm feedings.
The collareds, petrosaurus, gallotia, agama, alligator lizards,
lapida, skinks ... I probably forgot something ... lol, all seem
to be thriving on it. I usually alternate the turkey salad with the insects every few days.
They say "Variety is the spice of life".

I appreciate your experience with lizards and you sharing your sound advice with feeding. I know I will try the salads more often this for my own lizards.
Keep us posted on your lizards! Big mamma Red Head Agama start laying yet, or still digging?
J
No problem,
The red head is still digging. She digs a little everyday.
One of these days she'll surprise me and show up looking
real skinny. She's not very big. She's more between a
yearling and a sub adult size so I hope deposition goes easy
for her. Here's a shot of her I took just a few hours ago.

I love how they get a nice blue/green hue also. Nice shot of a bulgy lizard.
Thanks for the recepies there John. I might try your Collared mix see if my pair take any interest in a turkey salad.
I have many who love their salads, love nibbling and devouring the collards/kale, and especially shredded carrots. They also love the small pieces of boiled egg.
Not all eat it, but alot of them do. I also find if you start them really young, they will continue to eat it and enjoy as they get older.
I have plenty of pics of all age collareds eating salads just to prove to people they really DO, lol
