crazyjharris Jan 28, 2007 01:59 PM

i feel like [bleep]. today i found two eggs dried out. they weren't in the nesting or humid hide.i have beaked moss that's moist in the nesting box. the eggs where just in the door to the left of one of the rock hides. my question is when should i be expecting another clutch and how long do i have to get it in an incubation medium? recommenadtions incubation mediums would be great. thanks

I use a havobator! I bought it from LLL Reptiles and they seem to be the cheapest unless you make your own!

I hate it when they do that! A trick to prevent them from laying outside the nest box is to add multiple nesting boxes and use those as the only humidity houses in the cage. Also you could have nesting boxes as your only hide spots in the cage.
You can expect her to lay eggs again in about 2 to 3 weeks. What I use as a laying media is the brown peat/sphagnum moss (often used for house plants) that is moist to the touch but not soaking wet. It has worked for me many years. In this media you have about 48 hours to collect the eggs if layed and buried properly in the nest box. As opposed to outside the box your limited to hours. I still would try to check at least once a day if possible.
As for incubation media for years I've used vermiculite. But know with that hard to come by I'm going to try a new product called Hatch Right for the first time this year and see if I like it. Other breeders have had success with perlite and perlite/vermiculite mix. Personally I felt the perlite dried eggs out. You will have to see what works for you.
