small mesh cages

Tdude Jan 28, 2007 09:04 PM

I've been using the fresh air habitat cages for my jacksons and found that the small mesh has ripped some of their claws out when they climb the screen. I've since switched to cages that have larger mesh and the other chams I have are doing very well without any injuries. Has this happened to anyone else? It's too bad the claws can't regrow.

It's pretty common. Not all chams decide to be screen climbers. Some don't lose any nails even if they do. If the nailbed gets damaged the claw won't re-grow. Just watch the toes that have lost the nail to make sure they don't get infected. The toe will swell and be hard to the touch.

The toes did not get infected, but both males have lost at least 2 claws on their front feet.Won't make that mistake with the small mesh again.
