Alterna Page In Situ Gallery

Joe Forks Jan 29, 2007 08:23 AM

I've added an In situ gallery to the alterna Page.

John Fraser: I changed computers late 2006 and lost the text that goes with these photos. If you could take the time to e-mail me at joe(dot)forks(at)gmail(dot)com I'll get it added to the pages.

I've got a little more work to do, but this place holder will get us started

Some of the info needed for the gallery

1) who took the photo
2) approximate location (i.e. "east of Sanderson" or "my house in Sanderson"
3) approximate dates and time would be nice
4) maybe a little other background on the observation that might be interesting for the readers (i.e. "only snake seen all night" or "one of two alterna found that night" or "full moon - no rain for months and over 88 degrees F"

If anyone has any "in situ" alterna photos to add to the gallery please send them to me for addtion along with this info.

Thanks in advance
Forky

thanks John, I'll get that Gallery updated today. It's going to be nice.

The in-situ Gallery is just what it implies. It is for photos of alterna as they were found, before they were ever touched by human hands. If you took the snake off the cut, and placed it anywhere else to take the photo then it is no longer in-situ.

Thanks

I have passed up the opportunity to picture the animal before picking it up because I just get a little too excited.

The routine:
1 Hunt something near forever
2 Then with some luck see the critter
3 Drop everything you are holding
4 Run or climb like a goon to where you saw it
5 Pick the critter up and do a little song anddance (not a pretty site)
6 Stand on the side of the road holding it a while
7 Realize that it has been chewing on you the whole time
8 Bag it
9 Start over

And, so my photos are all staged, but every year I say to myself "This year I will photograph any alterna before I pick them up"...
