Prefered method of heat

BRB_Russ Jan 29, 2007 09:33 AM

I got my Guyana Red-tail a couple days ago and right now i have a 75w blue bulb on the cage right now on one end for basking but ATM thats my only source of heat. Do these snakes prefer to have under the tank heat or overhead light? Do they tend to bask? Also i am wondering if just that 75w bulb is heating the cage up enough when the rest of my appartment is 70*-74*

Thanks

Russ I use the basking light method (75watt for 20L and 100watt for 40 gall.) but when they are bigger I plan on providing basking heat from way of flexwatt on the bottom of the roof to act as the sun for mine. In the meantime I use the basking light for my bci and bcc and they seem to enjoy moving under that light when it goes on in the morning. At night they tend to burrow in their repti-bark and retreat under their half logs but the room doensn't drop below 73. Mine love to bask with their head tucked under their body on the grapevine too.
