Anybody use Sanichips for Substrate??

reptileinnovations Jan 29, 2007 12:49 PM

I was thinking about switching over to Sanichips and I wanted to know how people feel about this type of substrate in regards to humidity, ingestion, etc. Thanks.

Very small easy ingestion and is a bit dusty! I use carefresh bedding or desert snow. Allows them to dig and burry and still be safe. I also don't feed in any tanks i feed in seperate containers.

This is all I use. It is easily ingested, but is very soft and seems to do no harm. I've been using chips for over 2 year, and I've never had a single problem.

I do, and I use it for my non breeding subadults. It can get into the cloacal area, if breeding, and obstruct the hemipenes.

The chips are TINY and get into everything when you clean and spill (like me all the time), but it is easy to spot clean.
It tends to get a bit moldy if your humidity is too high, but other than that, it has been great.

We have been using Sani-chips for about 5 years and have not had any problems. It smells nice and is easy to spot clean. From the looks of this picture the snakes seem to like it too!

Thanks for the great input. I appreciate it.

It can get into the cloacal area, if breeding, and obstruct the hemipenes.

This also can happen at all times when they go to the bathroom the hemipenis is erected out at that time as well and can also do the same to your non breeding herps. Still my opinion is paper towels, or carefresh baedding or desert snow, alot safer and less dusty!
