I aquired my first gtp last week. It is a Jayapura type. My question is: at what age do they start to change colors, and when are they complete in their change; is it a scale by scale change, or a fading into green? My Jaya is roughly 2 foot long and equivalent to a quarter in diameter. here is a picture, sorry for the quality.

Nice chondro, but not a Jaya. Can't say for sure, but it most definately resembles a Biak. They are probably the most widely imported chondros due to their feeding response. Have fun, good luck, and make room for more chondros.....it's only begun.

Sorry about the previous post. It just bothers me when people sell chondros with locales that they don't even closely resemble. There is no determined amount of time an animal will begin to change, nor is there a determined amount of time it will take to fully adapt to adult coloration. I've had babies start changing at 3 months old and some not until they were 2 years old. Some have taken as little as 4 days to completely change, while another I have is still changing at 7 years old. Just enjoy the process. It's addicting.

I agree with everything Brandon has said, and would only add that biak locale types are usually start the soonest, but last the longest in their color changes. I think they usually look their best at around 2 years of age!!

These are all of the same farmed import biak snake at approx 4 months, 2 years and now 4 years of age.
