Is this normal??

MyKiwiBird Jan 29, 2007 08:15 PM

My corn has been sitting out in the open all night. I have only been home about an hour, but he is usually hiding all the time. He was sitting out last night, too, but then went back under a hide. It worries me because I never see him just sitting out in the open like this!! Is this normal??

I talked to someone here and they told me to since my snake is now an adult that feeding him one adult mouse a week is healthier for him than feeding him two, since then, my corn has been EXTREMELY active. I at first thought this was different and strange too, but I started thinking, I can't imagine in the wild that they just lay around all day long. Granted they love their solitude and all that, but they are most likely constantly on the move. My boy has been cruisin his tank almost every single day since the new diet. He's still just as bulky as he was before but maintains a healthier active life now. He's only been on this diet for a month or so now and I will tell you now, he's such a better pet now, I was handling him once a week before, now I handle him every other day because he's out and about. I love that he's more active and I can sit and watch him for hours. I wouldn't be to concerned with it unless he starts scratchin his nose on the screen or something of that nature.

Nope, no nose scratching or anything of that nature. I am a little concerned that he may be stressed because of the other snake in the tank. What do you think? How do you tell if a snake is stressed out?? I picked him up a while ago and he seemed cold, but he was active and then went back under a hide when I put him back. I checked the UTH and it is working fine.

On a side note..I am interviewing a few potential homes for one of the snakes and thinking about seperating them. I am very worried that they will miss eachother..they have never been apart. I talked to the lady who I got them from and she said they were born in october of '05, so they have been together approx a year and a half (their whole lives). Ugh..I am so stressed out about this cohabitation thing!!!!

Corn snakes are not social animals, so they won't "miss" each other. Keeping snakes together not only causes stress because they prefer to be alone, but also stresses them out in that they must compete for the best hide box, thermoregulation choice, etc.
