Mouth sore in Adult Beardie

sunbirdx Jan 29, 2007 10:03 PM

Hi All,
My Bender was running around today and got warm and when he was gaping, I notice that he had a what appeared to be a larged reddish brown growth around his back teeth. It doesn't really look like an abcess, and there is no foul smell or anything. I picked at it a bit with sterile tweezers and it is hard and no pus came out while I was picking at it. I cleaned it with a bit of alcohol.

Bender is otherwise healthy and happy, he is active, eating his veggies (but not his salad) and silkies, mealies and one pinky a week. His temps are correct and his UVB bulb is due for a change (a 10.0 is in the mail as of today).

Any suggestions on what to do would be great. Should I rush him off to the vet, or wait and see if it improves/worsens? He is pooping once or twice a week as well and seems relatively well hydrated.

Any help would of course be appreciated!

It's not worth risking it. I'd bring him to the vet right away.

Hi
the 10.0 can be to heavy i would be looking good if he not closed his eyes .
i even burned my babies with a 5.0 compact licht from zoomed .
i think a 5.0 is good enough.
opnly it should be not farther away then 12 inches .
yep i would let a vet check them muoth thing.
better to fast to a vet then to late .

What do you mean by the 10.0 can be heavy? The 10.0 weighs the same as the 5.0 on is the same wattage. The 10.0 just puts our twice the UVB as the 5.0. The 5.0 is fine it your tank is only twelve inches deep. I use all 10.0 since my tanks are 17" deep. Also fine screen tops can filter up to 50% of UVB rays.

I'm not sure if you are confusing with Mercury Vapor.

How did your babies get burned? Did they touch the bulb?

Hi
sorry am dutch heavy i mean it can be to much uvb/uva the 10 version.
i got a compact 5.0 from zoomed i buy him last time.
so i whas asuming i using the reptisun 5.0 it wil be the same thing.
but no i turn the licht in say 9-10 inches away from my beardies babies and next day they all got there eyes shutt
they got welding eyes .
after 5 days they opend there eyes i whas lucky it could be fatal ands all could be blind.
so i have contacted zoomed europe and they asked me to send the light .
so i have send him and they gonnan measure how much uv the light wil give.
it can be a production faulure .
i wil hear from the soon
i have heard the 10.0 version can do the same thing it also can hurt the eyes of babie beardies.
thats why i am saying 10 is not needed 5.0 is enough if its close by.
