Mouth sore in Adult Beardie

sunbirdx Jan 29, 2007 10:13 PM

Hi All,
My Bender was running around today and got warm and when he was gaping, I notice that he had a what appeared to be a larged reddish brown growth around his back teeth. It doesn't really look like an abcess, and there is no foul smell or anything. I picked at it a bit with sterile tweezers and it is hard and no pus came out while I was picking at it. I cleaned it with a bit of alcohol.

Bender is otherwise healthy and happy, he is active, eating his veggies (but not his salad) and silkies, mealies and one pinky a week. His temps are correct and his UVB bulb is due for a change (a 10.0 is in the mail as of today).

Any suggestions on what to do would be great. Should I rush him off to the vet, or wait and see if it improves/worsens? He is pooping once or twice a week as well and seems relatively well hydrated.

Any help would of course be appreciated!

it might be the one pinky a week. there not really recommended as they are very high in fat, the only time you could let a beardie have one is when you have a gravid or recently gravid female. it could just be fatty tissue, but a trip to the vet could reveal something else

Yea i would take to vet. See what's going on there. I also recommend stop feeding the pinkies once a week they are real high in fat and not healthy for your beardie. He should be eating salad and crix as a staple diet. Mealies and waxies should be fed only as treats as well as pinkies. Pinkies like said before are only to be fed about breeding time or if they are a bit underweight it's fine to feed one. Also if you insist you may feed 1 every month or every other but not every week.
