Need more help on gravel ingestion

Travis123 Aug 10, 2003 05:20 PM

He is a pacman by the way. I don't know who told me this, but someone suggested that I let him bathe in lukewarm water for 48 hours. He went to the watery warm part of the cage, but now he has moved. I will leave him alone today, because I think he knows what he is doing. I am going to try and change his susbstrate tomorrow. Do you think he will be able to be fine and eat tomorrow, which will be 48 hours? I will not feed him on the gravel however.

That's good that you;re changing the usbstrate. I would use mainly the bed-a-beast, though you could use the moss as a light topping for it to make the frog mor secure. The frog should eat normally, and feeding it might aid in the passing of the gravel stone, If it was a small one in relation to the frog size.

I would just ditch the moss altogether and go with straight Bedabeast. I also forgot to answer your query about the water bowl; just make sure it's sunken into the substrate, so the frog can enter/exit easily. A depth that is up to your frog's elbows is sufficient. Amke sure it is not over the frog's mouth and nostril level, though, to prevent drowning.
Good luck with your little guy (or girl)!
Sorry about my misspelling in the former post, sleep deprivation does that to you

See if you can get ahold of some wasx worms, the added fat content might provide some extra lubrication for getting the gravel out easier. I don't know if it works for sure, but it can't really hurt to try.

Try crickets...the exoskeleton acts like fiber.

Ok, I did change to bed a beast. He is in it and has eaten a few crickets already, unless they buried which I doubt, because I still see a few others in there. Also I think he realizes that he ate gravel and needs to get it out, because I saw him eat a little bit of bed a beast which is 100 percent coconut fiber. Man this frog knows what he is doing! When he does poo, will I see a gravel stone, that looks like poo is over it?

You have to break it apart...to search for the gravel.

Well, the gravel has started to come out. I thought it was one piece, but it looks as if he got a few of them. I took em all out, and it was wierd, because it didn't even look like poo was on them. After I saw the gravel out, he looked a lot skinnier, so I gave him a big sized goldfish(for his size) to make up for it and fatten him up.
