There's a lot of things you've got going on there. Congrats on getting your first gecko, it's always a fun time. One of the best things you can do is get a good manual, like The Leopard Gecko Manual by Phillipe de Vosjoli. That is worth it's weight in gold.
Now, you've got a lot to do to care for your pet. One of the most important things is to get a good temperature gradient. One end of your enclosure needs to be about 90 F, and the other needs to be about 70 F. This is during the day. If the hot end drops to about 80 F at night, it should be alright. Mine drop to about 84 at night, and they do fine. So, further with the heat business. Leos like belly heat more than anything, so use an Under Tank Heater (UTH). Make sure it doesn't get too hot or it'll burn your lizard. And make sure you get the tank up a little, or the pad can crack and wreck your tank. So, you've got a hot end and a cooler end, and you've got belly heat. Another good way to provide heat is to use either a ceramic heat emitter or just a plain old 45 watt light bulb during the day.
This post is getting long, but that's alright. Hides are next. One should be humid, so the lizard can shed properly. You can make this from an old butter tub with moist paper towels. This should be place on the warmer end to keep up the humidity. Another hide should be placed on the cooler end. Make sure it has plenty of places to hide.
Another big important one is what you have at the bottom of your tank/enclosure. Paper towels are easy and cheap to clean. Another one you can use (and I'll probably hear about this) is that repti-carpet. Just be careful there aren't any hanging parts to catch the nails of the leo on.
Alright, well, just read more in this forum for more advice and such. Good luck.
