Breeding Viper Geckos

SusannahJoy Jan 30, 2007 01:02 AM

Hello! I have a trio of adult viper geckos that I'd like to breed. I've read lots of caresheets that talk about breeding them, but I'm still sorta lost. What kind of incubator should I get? Do I have to worry about things like turning the eggs over when I put them in the incubator? I guess it's really just the whole incubator thing that has me confused. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

I've never bred vipers (heck, I've never even owned one), but I can tell you one thing: DON'T turn the eggs. You'll kill the younglings.

Hi,
Vipers are not that much different from Leopard Geckos if you've ever worked with them.
You can use a hovabator (check e-bay, they're about $35). It will take a few days to calibrate and set the temp. I incubate vipers at about 85 F. You should put the eggs in a deli/margarine cup half filled with vermiculite/perlite/or some other medium that is moist but not wet. As mentioned earlier, you really do not want to turn the eggs at all.
The eggs should then hatch in about 2 months or so.
Let us know if you have any other questions.
