hey all,

i was curious as to who has a garden set up for their torts? or any other veggie loving animal for that matter.

i was wondering what are the dementions and what you grow, i am thinking about doing it this summer in a 5x5 or 4x4 space

so if you can fill me in with what types of greens, grasses flowers and veggies you include, and also include what part of the country you are located

thanks
Adam

I use a sulcata seed mix that I purchase from Carolina Pet Supply. There is a mixture of grasses and weeds in it. I'm currently growing this mix indoors so I can give fresh greens instead of hay all the time(New Yorker). I plan on planting this outdoors in the spring as well. Its grows extremely fast. When my tort is grazing outdoors I make sure he has lots of weeds mixed in. In other words I don't treat the lawn in that area. a good site for what to plant outdoors in africantortoise.com. Check it out.

Hey Julia,

thanks for the info, i am a Vermonter so we are pretty darn close as far as what we can grow, and especlially inside in the winter, my landlord doesnt treat his grass, and he said i could do a 4x4 plot this year in the back yard. i will have to defiantly check out that site

thanks again

This is what I'll put in mine this year: Dandelions, turnips, kale (yeah, I know what some say on the Internet, but if my vet says it is OK, that's all that counts), parsley, coriander, mesclun, mustard, and all the surplus of grubs, beetles, and earthworms on the ground.

sounds good, i was thinking about doing parsley, luckly here in vermont dandelion grows all over the place, and there are alot of places that arent treated to go collect. iplan on doing baby greens flowers some grasses, mabey some squash, mustard greens, and some others that i am on the fence about, my landlord plants marigolds between his tomatoe plants so i can pluck some of the heads on those. either way i should have a nice packed garden this year, and i plan to keep all the dirt from my earthworms that i feed to my frog for alittle nice additive to the soil, not to mention the compost i plan to buy
