Well I'm finally found a local source that carries them and was just wondering at what sizes can they accurately be sexed. The two I saw are between quarter and half dollar sizes and both has no yellow underside.
Thanks

Thats a little young to accurately sex them. You start getting clues around 4 inches, or based on comparative growth within the same brood. A male will generally grow faster and have bigger features, ie - bigger block-like head. Also, when they get a tad bigger, females retain their dorsal stripe often times. But primarily the way to tell is size, females hit a wall in terms of growth speed at 4 or so inches and often times will stay that size for up to 2 years, whereas males will hit 10 inches by 2 years or so often times.
And throat color is a good intidaction once they get a bit bigger, however, many males have mottled throats that arent purely yellow, rather creamlike with blotches on the side.
Good luck.
Thanks for reply
There's two of them there and one is almost twice as big as they other so I'm going to go with the bigger one of the two. **crossing fingers, hoping it'll turn out to be male**
Sounds good. Although I doubt they'd know, ask them if theyre from the same batch, in other words siblings. But yea, just go with the more robust one to be safe, either way it will be a matter of luck for the most part.
Cheers.
Anyone know the male to female ratio in a batch of frogs(African bullfrog)? Would it be 3/4 males to 1/4 females or 1/2-1/2?
Nothing scientific but fishes I used to breed almost always turns up more males than females.
Do only the males have the motling (beard) under the jaw? Or can either male or female have the molted beard. I have pixie it looks alot like this but with more molting it is about 4-5" snout to vent
This is not mine, but looks very similiar.
I am trying to determine the sex of my pixie.
Mine also has the bright yellow leg joints and yellow line along the jaw.
I will try to snap some clear pictures of MY frog during the next feeding.
please see my photos above in topic above about 2 pixies.
