Some new Pictures of Two big Female Papuans! Hope you like.

frank k Aug 10, 2003 06:20 PM

I had these girls out to clean their enclosures so I took some pictures out in the sun. I tried to get the irredescent nature of their skin but I don't think I did them any justice. I hope you like the shots. I can't seem to get multiple pictures in one message so I will post a few shots on different messages. Please let me know how to post multiple pictures in one message if you could. Thanks. Frank Kincade.

Frank, those are incredible! How big is that female? I'd love to see more pics of them (and some of your diamonds too!) Bo

I would say pound for pound these have to be one of the strongest pythons out there.

Thanks for the photos- I can't get enough of them. I currently just have the one female juvie, but she is growing as fast as she can- amazing metabolism, food-turnaround of three days. (If I let her, she would eat more. Doesn't distinguish between food- she'll eat any rodent readily.) Like yours, she is very protective of her space, but once on a hook or in-hand calms down- races around for a few minutes than gets lazy. I'd love to see more pictures, or possibly info about enclosures- I've been keeping her in slightly larger cages than I might for a similarly sized snake just because she takes so much advantage of it- does this continue into adulthood? I know they fill out a little, but does their activity level decline?
Thanks again, more photos always welcome.

Big Female Papuans.

Papuans are on my "life-list" and your pictures are helping tide me over until that day.

I've seen some pretty amazing color changes by these snakes. Do you ever see yours with a more yellow color?

Keep up the good work and keep snapping those pictures. Get those beauties breeding too.

half of their sides and the rainbows are just unbelievable in person. When the sun hits them they just glow in the rainbow colors. The bottom of them is a pale yellow tone also. I have seen mine look almost black and really light depending on when they've eaten, when they've shed and temperature changes. When I thought the females were gravid they got a really light color. I don't know if was because they were basking in the heat or what. I would love to see these two give me some eggs next spring but we'll see. I read that a zoo produced eggs from papuans from a female that was like 15 years old (I would have to check my reference) but I know she was much older. One of these females is proven as is my breeder male. I only had them for a few months before last years breeding season so maybe it was too much change for them to settle in and produce right away. My other female is definately big enough and copulated many times with the proven male this year so we'll see. Thanks for the nice comments and checking out the pictures. There are plenty more in my photo gallery under "snakes" and username "frank k".
