Breeding Season

Jeff Clark Jan 30, 2007 11:18 PM

...I had to wait longer than usual to start putting my snakes together because we have not had enough cold weather to cool them down. Last night I finally put the males in with the females. Within the first 4 hours I had seen three pairs of BRBs mating and my largest male Surinam Redtail was all over the largest female.

Nice, sounds like it's turning into an early season. I'll keep fingers crossed for all of us.

Thank you to Mike, Dave and Russ for the good wishes. I am hoping that all we forum regulars who breed these snakes will have a good year. I noticed two females that looked like they were ovulating late wednesday evening. I shot PICs but the PICs just do not capture the subtle bulges. I rotated the males from one cage of females to the next. My strange reduced red male has shown no interest in the two females he is staying with. I will give him several weeks and then perhaps put other males in with those two females.

Jeff,
I hope you have lots of little ones this year. I think I remember you saying your BCC have not produced for you yet so hopefully this year you'll have some nice Surinam babies. A male Surinam BCC has been on my wish list for awhile now but my wife seems to think I have enough snakes (a paltry 8). I'm working on her.

Paul,
...My biggest pair of Surinams have bred. With my past luck with Boa Constrictors I am not even gonna start thinking about getting any babies.
