substrate?

weebeasties Jan 31, 2007 10:18 AM

I've been keeping various lizards for years and am aware of the dangers of different substrates but I haven't been keeping up with iguana news until recently. I acquired to small adult iguanas and an enclosure. I'm around them most of the day so I keep newspaper in there and spot clean frequently. Is there any new ideas for happy iguanas? I know paper isn't perfect but its never made any one sick. I even checked on the ink ingredients used by our local paper. I'd love something that would hold some moisture, spot clean easily, be safe for nosey iguanas and that doesn't cost too much. Whats everyone else using to corral thier lizard dooky?
Thanks, B.

When I had my Iggy used Forest bed. stays moist and easy to clean plus they like to dig in it. Onlu like 5.00 buck for a dry brick. Or you could always use some pine bark depending on the size of the enclosure

Avoid using pine there are toxic chemicals concentrated in the bark and can harm your pets. Someone suggested the idea to use the bed pads that they use for people who are unable to make it to a bathroom. They are washable and adsorbent and iggys can wipe their vents on it. You can buy them easily. Its a great new idea. I'm not talking about the throw away ones but the cloth ones. Good Luck
