Let my Chameleon loose to roam

sbsshadow May 21, 2003 02:28 AM

I have a veiled female chameleon in a all mesh viv I want to convert the top half of my study (already at 85 degrees because of tarantulas in there) I would put the UV bulbs on the ceiling and also the basking light... I want to set up lots of FICUS plants in there with vines between them.

can anybody see any problems with this ??

any help appreciated.

i can see a few prolems
one would be loosing her in such a bi room
another would be her getting out of the plants on onto the floor where she could be stepped on
another is her getting out of the room, and wondering the house
and feeding her may be hard if you cant find her
it seems like a good idea, but to pull i off could be a lot of work and cost a ton

Free-range setups have their challenges, but are much nicer for the keeper and the kept! I did this two seperate times. Once with jacksons chameleons and once with a panther chameleon and it worked fine. You have to watch where you walk and cats are a definite bad thing!
Allison Banks wrote about her experiences doing this with her melleri. Check out what she has to say.
Think out how you are going to do the watering and the feeding and keeping her safe and contained in the office and put it into action. Beware, though, of doors that open into the room when you cannot see what is on the other side when you open them. Chameleons roam every now and then and you don't want to hurt your chameleon by walking into the room.
Good luck. Make it well thought out and it will be a nice experience! If you have any specific questions on how to do things post it and I'd be happy to share my experience.
