jnjreptiles Jan 31, 2007 11:32 AM

Bad pic of a very nice w.c male axanthic. He is shy and we are waiting for a new camera to come in for better pics but I love the color on this guy.
Any opinions on him ??

Thanks

There are two schools of thought at work here.

One-----some importers use the term Axanthic as a discription, as opposed to saying it is an Axanthic morph. The word Axanthic describes a snake with reduced yellow pigment, or the absence of yellow. Now, if one imports a snake with no yellow, and they want to call in an Axanthic, who is to say it is not, based on the definition of Axanthic.

Two-----some people see the word Axanthic, and assume it is a proven morph, from the SK, VPI or NERD line.

I think as an importer, if you are selling a snake, you need to make 110% sure that the buyer knows what they are getting, which in most cases in a snake that is unproven, and a "wannabe"....from a seller who really "wantsittobe" a morph, so they can sell it for a higher price.

In the long run, honesty will be the best policy. You can spend the money, and it is gone, but your reputation never leaves you.

Well said Dave. We bought these 2 males from one of the best known ball breeders / importers.
We bought the axanthic as a w.c axanthic, unproven, and being sold as a unproven for someone who wants a prove out project.
The other we bought as a het red axanthic type/ co-dom black back , again w.c unproven.
These are priced as w.c unproven animals, the axanthic is by genetic standards hands down 100% axanthic. The other looks a lot like a het red or other co-dom black back, but who knows, he is ready to breed so he will be proved out this season if all goes well. We are not trying to sell these as proven morphs just giving people who want there own projects a chance, just like VPI, SK,NERD etc had with there lines.
Sorry for any confusion.

Thanks

One of the problems I see, however, is the educated buyer is going to ask the question, "If it looks so nice, if it looks like a morph, why are they selling it instead of proving it out themselves?" I think that would be a legit question to ask. Granted, you cannot keep everything you get in, but if I was an importer, I would definately keep back some of the A animals, and try to prove them out vs. pay $200 for an unproven animal, and sell it for $399. I suspect, selling unproven morphs, alot of buyers in the long run will be unhappy with their purchases, and an unhappy customer is not a repeat customer. I just would not do business that way, too risky. I think you would get alot more props if your ads stated NORMAL, WC, but Axanthic looking, vs. wording your ad like it is a morph. Even with little ?'s and disclaimers, I think you need to put the word normal in your ad, before all the adjectives and glosses. Just my opinion. There are importers that tell it like it is, and importers that try to gloss things in a way to make the most money.

axanthics go for more than $400.....so if the ad reads W C axanthic unproven.$400........people are stupid if they think they are getting proven /real axanthics......yet for $400 IF they prove it out,........they saved cash......?.....

.........no registration.........let the stupid people waste their cash ..........they'll figure it out sooner or later......

.........right?......

In my opinion looks like an import that is color changed due to stress.....might look completely different in a couple months....

do you see any yellow on this breeder female of mine?
before anyone asks, no i'm not claiming she is. by definiton, though, i think she qualifies.

tns4life Feb 02, 2007 10:48 PM

I think maybe you are getting the wrong term...There is a lack of yellows, browns..Leaving us with a black, greys and whites. That snake you have has way too much brown to be an axanthic.
Pretty snake though
