She is so happy

ecb Aug 10, 2003 06:53 PM

I put a fishtank waterfall filter in her water tray, and today she was going in and out of the water on her own
She was trying to climb up the front of the filter when I first put it in, so I piled up some rocks in front, now she has been seen laying down on the rocks, letting the water just wash over her :-D
I had to put in a new plant to replace the one with the big wide leaves (the one that died)
She was showing off, her dewlap has some orange in it (neat)
and she ate 2 HUGE earthworms for breakfast, and one more just a bit ago, and there were these tiny flies in her tank, and she is eating them too. (she is really filling out)
I am also finding that a shortie sock makes a very good window wiper, VERY absprbant, and no streaks, and does not fall in the tank (it is around my hand)
but she is laying on the lilac branch, hind legs limp, and posing for pictures
we will see them up here soon

Oh oh, I have also found out that red wrigglers escape a LOT more than nightcrawlers, even though the NCs are bigger

Great news!! Glad to hear she is starting to fill out for you. Food variety really makes a difference with these guys. I have also notice red wigglers getting out more, and I have even noticed them scaling the sides of the glass at night when I peek in on the tank. I have caught some at the very top of a 20 gallon glass tank at about 2 am (when i had a baby capra in there). So they can pretty much get out of anything you put them in. I use them mostly just in the soil of the Armata tank now, I am sure they dig a few up once in a while.

As for the fish tank filter, give us the details on how you got it working. I have tried that before and the water pump wasn't strong enough to lift the water all the way from the pool at the bottom up into the filter so it never worked. Share your secrets :D.

Also, I caught the Armatas displaying again and heard a lot of racket coming from their tank a little after, but didn't dare disturb them just incase they were makin some babies for me. I'll keep everyone posted if I catch the female getting lumpy or digging.

on the filter, I have the micro whisper (I think) and I have the outside part up on some rocks outside the pan, so the motor is below water level, but OUTSIDE the paint tray. The edge of the paint tray is holding up the filter, and the power cord just twists up the side of the filter and out the top of the tank.
I only use the tubes that go to about 1" below the lower level of the filter body, and I had to cut 1/2 the tip off the end of that tube, so there is a little of the III gaps but not the entire depth
when I got the pump up and running, I filled the upper reseviour, and poured water into itfrom about 3" up to creat more of a flow, it took a couple min for the pump to get the water flowing, and I have to keep on top of it so the water level does not drop down below the III gaps (the holes at the bottom of the tube, that filter out dead fish and large pieces of plant in a fish tank)
after I had the water flowing, i stacked stones up in front of the filter (mores upport so it willnot fall from her trying to climb up it) and put the actual filter medkium in it, and scrubbed the stuck on dirt from the sides and floor of the paint tray to get this as clean as possible
I M using the water from the "pool" to water the plants e ery other day or so (I was spraying them, but after putting 2 bottles of 20 oz each a day, i realized I need to water the dirt more than mist the plants, AND I have the syphon tube in there to drain any over watering I do anyway)
if U R in Pa, I will show U my setup
or U can try my links on the previous posts
