meal worms in cream of wheat?

azcarey Jan 31, 2007 02:39 PM

is that okay? i don't have any raw oatmeal so for now i put them in some raw cream of wheat, i'm not going to feed them to my dragons until someone says the bedding is okay for the meal worms

I don't see why it would be bad. I use a mix of corn meal, wheat germ and oatmeal with no problems. all but the wheat germ's real cheap too
I used cream of wheat before but since i like to have it for breakfast it doesn't last long enough to give fresh bedding to mealworms, if there's even enough lol

be careful with that as some add butter, salt, and other flavors t it. and i've never personally used it.
but if you atleast $1 go to wal-mart and buy a cheap generic brand of oatmeal.

natural food stores have some great additions to that bedding.

I regularly use : dried sea kelp powder, spirulina, bea pollen, brewer's yeast and some other ones occassionally.

Good luck.

Remember what you feed your feeders is what your pet eats.

I find the best bedding for mealworms is some of the commercial gutload/bedding such as the stuff from cricketfood.com but raw cream of wheat would work to keep them alive until you can get to the store. If you can't afford the commercial bedding I recommend a mixture of 12 grain cereal mix, baby rice cereal, rolled oats
, white bran, wheat germ, red bran and fish flakes.

That being said you should not be feeding mealworms to bearded dragons. Mealworms have a high risk of causing impaction in bearded dragons and have a very low nutrient content. It's worth it to invest in feeding a variety of feeders like silkworms, crickets, roaches and phoenix worms.
