Quick Breeding question...

Biscuit71 Jan 31, 2007 04:03 PM

I know this stuff has been asked half a dozen times in various ways, but I figured I would give it a go..
My male was in my females cage for about a month or so.. probably since christmas. Well, over the weekend, There was a good size swell about midbody, and he isnt interested in her anymore, and I dont think she could care less about him, so I took him out and put him back into his again. Well, my question is this.. I have only really seen them lock up on a few occasions. I do work 24 hour shifts, so there was most likesly some locks that I didnt get to see. I was seeing alot of sperm plugs laying about the cage in the beginning, but none to speak of over the last few weeks. I am wondering if there has been enough time to get enough sperm in there for a successful breeding or not. Like i said, I have no idea how many locks they have had, but I did see a good size swell. Also, could this be a pre-ovulation swell rather than a full on ovulation? My friend had my male from Nov-Dec and his girl got a good size swell and it went down, and then her back end just went HUGE. Jsut wondering if there is any kind of order to this kind of thing. Thanks to all that answer....

From what you are saying that the pair has only been together for about a month, it's most likely a pre-ovulation swell that you are seeing. As you said in your friend's case, his female was swelled for a while, it went down, then she swelled again huge.... that second swelling, was definately ovulation. When the female ovulates, the swelling is typically enormous and looks like the girl is ready to explode..

My advise to you, leave the male in there with the girl. Sometimes they take breaks on their own and will breed whenever they feel like it. It wont hurt anything to leave him in there and keep trying.
