Tell me I did the right thing..

MyKiwiBird Jan 31, 2007 05:50 PM

I KNOW you all are sick of my cohabitation posts, and I'm sorry. Just need a little more encouragement LOL

Yesterday I sent one of my snakes to his new home (with the person who DOESNT feed live mice!). Today I took my remaining snake out to feed him, and I think he finally realized the other snake was gone! He gobbled his mouse up, but once he was back in the tank he wandered around for about an hour, going into all the hides over and over and bonking his nose on the screen top. I think he is searching for his friend!! Or am I imagining his loneliness? I have never seen him this active, especially with a full belly!

He is and will be fine.
He probably finally feels comfortable enough to explore without the other snake in there with him.

Your snake was probably still in 'feeding mode', mine are always a little more active right after they feed. Then they hide again. <G>

Well..he has settled in to one of the hides for the night. Thanks guys for all of your help and support I'm still trying to convince myself that I did the right thing..but I am getting there! LOL

I think you're imagining it. My corns will occasionally do as you describe, and wander all around after eating. I usually figure it's because I clean and rearrange the hides and stuff while they're out, just to mess with their heads and give them something to check out. Seems like a normal "hey, that person just put me in here, I better check it out" behaviour of a creature with a rather limited memory/attention span :P Anyway, I doubt it has ought to do with loneliness! Good luck,

-P

Well he has been pretty active all night, too. I did change from those nasty pine shavings to aspen, so maybe that is freaking him out?

Yes you did the right thing. Pine? good thing you switched. I think I read somewhere that pine shavings are not good for corns. Others opinions welcome. Aspen is much much better.

I have come to the conclusion that there is no cure for snake addiction!

I haven't ever used aspen, I've always used reptile carpet or paper towels, but I know that when you put them onto a new substrate, they will cruise and learn about that texture and feel. Imagine this, babies of the humane variety lol, they're born and don't know anything of what the world is like, when they become toddlers and get a paper cut the first time, they are prone to touching that cut over and over because they've never felt that feeling before. Thats what your corn is going through now, he's cruising because he's never felt that substrate before and wants to get to know it.

Ah..that makes me feel better, thanks I dont see him this morning, but I got up a couple of times last night and saw him out and about. I see severel tunnels in the aspen where he burrowed in there and tracks all over the place..
