I got lucky

draybar Jan 31, 2007 06:47 PM

I got lucky!

About five weeks ago one of my emoryi males het albino escaped.
I have had a few snakes escape over the years and have only found one that was gone for more then ten or fifteen minutes.
Well, Saturday when my wife and I came home from the grocery store there he was in the middle of the living room floor.
Of course so were the dogs and a couple of the cats..
When I first picked him up I thought he was dead, then I saw his tongue just barely stick out. I checked him out and he had a small cut on one side probably from one of the cats.
I took him up to the snake room, "refurnished" his sterilite box
and gave him a nice clean bowl of water. He drank for about five minutes and then crawled into his hide.
I placed the box in the rack and left hin over night to see how well he would recover.
When I checked him Sunday he was active and alert and doing pretty good.
Sunday is my feeding day so I decided to give him a fuzzie to see if he would take it.
He ate the fuzzie without hesitation and as of a few minutes ago
he had kept the fuzzie down and was looking good...WHOO WHOO

Man!,......you sure did get lucky!LOL, It's happened to me many times over the years too. The last time it happened was about six years ago with an adult "tangerine" Hond.. I fed her and left the top off the cage while I went to do something else. When I went back into the "snake room" much later that night, I saw the top just laying on her cage where I earlier left it!!!!...........I wanted to kick myself SQUARE in the ass!!!LOL....I found her about a month and a half later when I went to put on a pair of shorts that were in a laundry basket next to my bed..........she was tightly coiled up in the huge front pocket of the shorts!!!!.........even though I,ve had literally MANY hundreds of snakes, it still SHOCKED THE #@%& out of me when I went to put those shorts on for a fraction of a second!!!!lol. boy, was I a "happy camper" after that!.........anyway, glad to hear your snake's doing well!, If you guys would have shopped for one more item, or caught one more traffic light, it could have turned out MUCH WORSE!!! ...........................Doug

Nice find on the escapee!!! It warms the cockles of your heart when that happens and you feel lucky as all get out LOL. I lost a hatchling honduran about three or four months ago. Tore the house apart and found it in a closet buried in blankets the same day I noticed it missing. Two weeks ago we lost our new uromastyx while setting up its cage after just buying it from a herp show. We didnt notice the hole in the bag the vendor gave us. Even stopped and ate lunch, etc. on the way home!! Luckily the wife found it hiding behind the VCR less than an hour later LOL!

...LOL..
Sorry Tom,
Can't do that.
We have eight cats. Too darn many, YES...But if you take each one individually we care for them just as much as our four dogs.

Me too!
I'm not at all proud to announce it but, we've had 2 escapes of sub-ocs in the last few months. In both cases, the kats ripped them open & they appeared dead, bled out. In both instances, they survived & are doing fine. We solved the escape issue but, I'm amazed at the damage these guys can take & still come back healthy. Won't happen again, though.

i gotta go w/ draybar, snakes are cool but cats are cute, especially kittens! here's a stray that showed up in my back yard last summer who quickly got into the swing of things around here.......

Dan,
That looks like the last stray we brought in.
Her name is Mitzi...kind of a play on mittens because she is polydactal (spelling?)
She has seven toes on both front paws.

He co-exists perfectly with all our cold-blooded kritters. Even dropped off an unharmed scarlet king on the kitchen floor.

He definitely looks like a COOL CAT!
Sorry though, I think our latest rescue is probably the worlds coolest cat.....LOL
He gets along with all the other cats, the dogs, the neighbors, the neighbors dogs and the neighbors cats...lol
Scooter!

Hmmm, Claymore's got some serious competition for the title. Let's face it, domestic or wild, kats are just kool kritters all around. And they don't bark. To keep it on topic, today's arrival from Dusty... Two pinks in the belly before ever leaving it's deli-cup.
