Boa vs. Python(giant) strength....

dmac Jan 31, 2007 07:54 PM

Let's say all things considered equal (sex, length, relative age) which one is stronger? If you had a 7 foot female, three year old boa against a 7 foot, two year old female python, which would be stronger? I would think the python would be, but I have no idea. Any one??

Boas are way stronger pound for pound.

I've been told that a 10' BCC is about as strong as a 18' Burmese python

Russ,
....I know Boas are stronger than Burms but a big Burm has incredible strength. Those Burms that are running loose in south Florida have been known to eat some pretty big Alligators. I would think that a Boa would be as strong as a Burm that was maybe 20 or 30 percent longer.

No offense, guys, but just having participated (yesterday afternoon into the evening) in an Indiana State House committee hearing on a proposed oppressive bill that talks about "exotic animals and public safety", this kind of dialogue on a public forum feeds fuel (maybe more like ammunition) to activist groups such as the Humane Society of the United States.

For the past week, I have been working closely with many, many others in Indiana to stomp this down.

This is only Indiana and I am sure there is plenty of other proposed legislation, sitting in committees, just waiting to be slipped through when no one is looking.

Once again, this open dialogue can, and will be used against all breeders in all states, boas and pythons.

Don't get me going ... I have already killed a case of Southern Comfort over all this.

Respectfully, Bill Gaines

Bill, This is Daniel Culbertson I also live in Indiana And I have talked with you a few times. And wanted to know what I could do to help?. I live about an hour north of you and I want to do something. I have 47 boas at the moment and have heard the supposed laws. What can I do to help?. I have given shows at schools and such. And I know I could get alot of support from others. Please tell me what I can do to help!!!!!!.

You're right, and although most people that post and lurk here are Boa lovers, I realise NOW that these kind of threads can be used against us. I apologize and I hope the mods do remove this thread. I will try to think when I post in the future.

No problem ... I know you meant not harm, but rather just started what seemed like a reasonable question. After this past week, my antennas are up for these type of topics.

Bill, you couldn't be more right. There are groups just waiting for posts like this to validate their points. After Wednesdays meeting and seeing first hand how these animal rights groups will use any incident as ammunition to accomplish their agenda. We should all be more careful what we post as this information could be used against us.

Thanks
Dean Mayfield

HE IS WRONG!WRONG!WRONG! There is a channel called animal planet which televised this who is stronger boa/python. If you allow other people dictate what you should or shouldn't say then there is something wrong with you., you must not be an AMERICAN. These "group's" can get all the info they need from "scientific fact's" that's all that matter's in the law's eye's, FACT'S. Not a forum where a question is hypothetical not even factual.. LOOSEN UP.. YOU....GUYS.....

BRB_Russ Feb 02, 2007 06:35 AM

i see no problem with this thread, its simply asking about the strength of an animal. Comparing the strength of a boa vs the strength of a python is no big deal . . .

"I have already killed a case of Southern Comfort over all this" I guess its ok to suggest we are all drunks though. LMAO

vcaruso15 Feb 02, 2007 07:09 AM

Thats just the sort of thing that will get our hobby taken away from us.

Is it possible to be more disrespectful to call Bill a drunk is either an uninformed attach or just plain stupid. He is one of the most upstanding people in this hobby/business. And if you have ever spoken with him you would know that.

The reason this post is bad is that it is the exact same argument that people will try to use to take our boas away from us. If we guess that a boa is 30% stronger than a python of the same length, then that is the argument they will use against when we say boas dont get nearly as big as a python. Nothing more intelligent than arming our enemies with ammunition to use against us.

even your's bra! even your's.,.,.,.,. you shouldn't be afraid of what you want to say, you all need a reality check of what America is. That mean's being able to say what you want when you want.. GOD BLESS AMERICA.,AND NO PLACE ELSE, J.K. BRING HOME THE TROOPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

vcaruso15 Feb 02, 2007 10:59 AM

Yea God Bless Americia and Support The Troops and Freedom of Speech and all that. I agree with it all 100%. What you dont understand is that if we keep sounding off with stuff like this and are not careful to present our hobby in the correct light our freedom to keep boas and alot of other snakes will be taken away from us. We do have the freedom of speech, but we also have the right to remain silent. Do you understand that bra?

there is nothing wrong with talking about which species is stronger. I understand we "hobbiests" have to be responsible about what we say, it's not like buddy was asking which snake is most harmful or deadly. everybody need's to chill:/ the post was fun and innocent, and I hope to see some more fun post's in the future where everybody is asked to participate.. peace!bra!! don't forget I Am The REDDOGG

reddogg1 Feb 02, 2007 07:04 AM

last I checked we live in the UNITED STATES of AMERICA , last I checked we have freedom of speech! there was nothing wrong with that post!!! I found the post very "entertaining" Thank's for posting., oh by the way don't choke on your liquor....

mrcanada21 Feb 01, 2007 03:49 PM

I think the that because boas are largely arborial they are probably stronger, or at least have a more "gripping" power. Just a thoery.

reddogg1 Feb 02, 2007 07:12 AM

don't back down because of one person's complaint! This kind of information is available., I have seen the "competition" on animal planet of whose "stronger" this forum is for information and fun! nothing wrong with asking whose stronger... much respect!! here is a little eye candy 50/50 suri.
