Breeding Halmahera Geckos gehyra vorax??

ornate_uro Jan 31, 2007 08:52 PM

I have a pair of Halmahera. Ive had them for a few months and are having trouble breeding them. I bought them as a breeding pair and they are male and female, both housed together, since I bought them. Now Ive heard they breed all year long... But Ive yet to see eggs. What do they look like, where are they usually found???

I have my pair in a homemade wood enclosure with a plexi glass front (top) and screen front (bottom). and a screen top. 36"tallx18"x18"

The temps are right, diet right, humidity always 40-60%

WHAT CAN I DO TO PROMOTE BREEDING???
Im thinking about putting some bamboo stalks, or a fake stalk made of pvc with a coupling and a cap on the bottom. Ive read this helps? Anything else?

Also, I was told of horror stories of the female killing the male, and the male repeatedly eating the clutch, anyone?

It took mine about three months before breeding as of they needed to get use to the cage. Give them time they will eventually. I believe also the warmer temps of low 80's to 80 degrees promotes breeding better as my room is lower in temp now about 75 and breeding has gotten slower. So also to improve the enclosure of egg laying put hollowed out bamboo stalk and or other hollow areas. Mine lay in a specific bamboo stalk. Also make sure you can get to the eggs. They lay between one and two. Also If you have a small cage and or if the male is smaller then the female I would imagine the female attacking the male. Mine though are in a 30 gal and are fine. You can tell the male is breeding with your girl b/c she will have tears in her skin nothing to worry about unless they are bleeding

Also I doubt the geckos eat their own eggs. It also usually take the female between and month to two to develop eggs. Thats what I am guessing every time I get eggs.
