Jut curious--what are the politics that are going on? I read often but don't post much. What about others thoughts on this as well? TK

Example, If something is Yellow and you say it looks Orange to you and it hurts some little feelers then it will get pulled.
I can't really go into anything else on Forum.

Quit being such a rebel and they won't pull your posts!!! LOL Just kidding my friend! How you doing? I just pulled all of my Hondos out of brumation that were down since October! I am hoping for a good year lots of nice females ready to go. Take care and are you going to Daytona this August?? I am and looking forward to it. I will be feeding today after work and I am going to post some pictures.

for brumating 4 months when one can brumate them in 3 months and sometimes 2 months. Is it because for economical reasons?

Also, I have one male that I did not brumate until mid-December so I can feed him more while the rest started their brumation in early November. Would the male in question be able to breed if the brumation is only 2 months or less? I have always brumated my hondos at least 3 months but this is the first time that I am brumating one of them for only 2 months. Are there cases where a male can successfully breed with brumation of less than 2 months in states that have large climate fluctuation of temperatures?

Well,
on the 15th of october I start cooling them down slow. They are down in the upper 50's around november 1st.Then its 3 solid months of cold and then the first of feb (today LOL..)I reverse the process and open the door to the snake room and start bringing it up slow. By the 15th or so of this month they will be up at 80-82.So its going in at 2 or so degrees per day and its coming up at that rate also.
I don't think that going from 50's to 80's in a day or so is good.I think it causes shock and its not how it happens in the wild.
I have tried that (many many years ago) I lost about 10% of my snakes right out of hibernation. Now I have it down to about 1% or 2% max and thats with 300 snakes.

I think your male will do fine with two months of brumation.I really think that the females need the rest and the three to four months.

Also,my snake room gets into the 40's every year but its a very tapered drop and only last a week or two. Some people say I am crazy and that all my tropical snakes will die but its not like I take them from 80 to low-mid 40s in the matter of a couple days.

Is this the male you are putting some size onto? I look forward to seeing your pinstripe hypos this coming season. You hatched some really nice ones last year!

Conserving_herps Feb 01, 2007 02:33 PM

Unfortunately, I'm not Paul that you were responding to. Paul is nicer than me...LOL..Seriously, Paul is indeed a very nice guy.

And no, the above hypo extreme was not the male I was referring to. The above hypo extreme is a female juvenile less than a year old but growing fast. She won't breed until 2008.

The one in question is another extreme which was born in 2005 but borderline on size, that is why I had to prolong his feeding period late last year while shortening his brumation period with the hope of breeding with a ghost.

The above female hypo extreme from 2 threads up is definite het anery. Below is his sibling brother. Both came from Mike Falcon.

Thanks,

Ray

well said...well,more specifically-when you get right down to it-$$$ rules;trace any controversy out and sure enough you'll find somebody's purse strings attatched...a mega site with such a huge web as the great lampropeltis,it doesn't take much to ruffle someone's feathers somewhere.partners,sponsors,vendors,advertisers,whatever....it's amazing how many less-persistent souls i know of in the hobby that simply stay away, out of disgust of the above situation.
