Favorite Of Your Collection?

Biodemon Feb 01, 2007 01:35 AM

I'm adding to my collection and wondering what snakes have become your favorits and why. I've had many types of snakes in the past, currently have honduran milk snakes, but my favorite was a Borneo Short tailed Python. I raised him from a hatchling and had him two years. He escaped from his enclosure one day and couldn't find him for several months. When I found him he had a respitory infection that I tried despratly to save him from from. Being in the lower temp of my house simply killed him. He was just so mild and mellow tempered - just had a cool personality. I've had another friend however have a borneo die of a respitory infection that kept his living conditions seemingly good. One end of the cage 88-90 and the other about 78-82 with 50% humidaty unless shedding he would then mist the cage daily. I'm realy considering a Woma. I'm a bit worried that blood and borneo pythons might be a bit prone to respitory troubles. I also want somthing fairly easy to breed, not worry too much about regulating humidaty, and stay under 7-8ft. I'm new to the forum and any opinions or sugestions are appriciated.

Over the years I have kept many species of python. Currently the only one that I still work with is the anthill python. They are so neat. They do absolutely everything that larger pythons do and they can do it all in a simple small drawer set up. I have never found such tiny snakes with such a great tame attitude, amazing feeding response, and interesting breeding behavior.

See my post below for pics of one of my current pairs.

I have never owned a woma but from what I hear they rapidly become the favorites in any collection. Maybe this summer.....

My favorite is my leucistic texas rat snake. 6 feet of pure white beauty. My second favorite is my male woma python. Just a really beautiful 6 ft long snake with a great personality and greater appetite.

Remember where they come from...and the humidity. My Timors and Papuan Olives get them every year. My carpets and Aussie olives never do. Same with the Aspidites group.

And I have a very dry basement.

I will forever love my Bismarck Ringed pythons. Yes, you do have to keep the humidity up (around 80% constant) but if you keep them in plastic, that is not too difficult. They are remarkably cool little snakes. My smallest male is a hair over four feet, and my largest female is about 5 1/2 feet. I would not recommend them as "first snakes," but since you have a little experience, and might want something a touch more challenging, they are uber-cool.

Here is a pic of my favorite, and my first Ring, Tsuba. I have one female with even better color, but have never had an animal with a cooler attitude than this boy. - Brian
