I've never had a hoggy so can't say which is more docile. None of my BRB's are nasty but they can get single minded about going somewhere or some direction. They can get just over 6 feet long and 10 lbs for the larger females. Males are slightly smaller. I feed mine pretty much weekly but small meals, not a stuff yourself all you can eat kind of feeding.

...Hogg Island Boas and Brazilian Rainbow Boas can either one be great pets or lousy pets depending upon how YOU handle and care for them. Most breeders tame their baby snakes through regular and firm handling sessions. When you get the snake from a reputable breeder it should be tame but it may react to threatening situations by striking. If you move away or flinch when it strikes it will quickly learn that striking makes the big bad human go away. If you are brave enough to let it bite and then continue handling it will learn that striking and biting does not make you go away and that you are actually not a threat. Both of these snakes require VERY specific and VERY different caging and temperature and humidity control. Be sure to do plenty of research and have a cage all setup with the temperature and humidity controlled before you get the snake.

I went through the same situation you seem to be going through, but instead of a BRB, I was considering the CRB, the Colombian Rainbow Boa. Don't count those guys out, they may not be as colorful or brilliantly patterned as their Brazilian counterparts, but they are still beautiful with their reddish-brown color and white bellies. They are also tend to be able to tolerate lower levels of humidity than Brazilians(you should still keep them around 50-70%), which is especially good for first time rainbow boa keepers that tend to make small mistakes.

Oh yeah other important stuff. CRBs range from 4-6 feet long, in case you wanted to know the size.
