how long are box turtles pregnant for?

cuttiepie1978 Feb 01, 2007 02:01 PM

Hello all.

This is the first time I have had box turtles. I have one male western, one female florida and I am pretty sure a female ornate. I seen my western and ornate locked together 3 days ago and I seen my male western and my female florida locked together yesterday. Does this mean them matted or are they just practicing. If they did mate. When should I expected the females to lay there eggs. Please help.

box turtles dont copulate for just reproduction, just because a male mounts doesn't mean you'll have eggs, and I'd recomend seperating the 3 turtles to prevent them from doing so, as for how long a turtle can remain gravid, she can hold sperm for atleast 4 years.. and eggs she can hold til she dies from them(if she holds them in they will calcify and most cannot pass calcified eggs) generally normal gestation can be 2 weeks to a few months depending on the turtle and the care given to her.
