hehe and suggestions!

Kaa appears to be in the 'norm' for behavior but i am watching it carefully to learn and study it..well i should say we are!
the class loves Kaa so much and are very into learning, writing, and studying it.

my final question....

how much handling is too much?

i picked up a book on these guys and in it it suggested not handling them unless absolutely nessisary. i know its not a dog or a cat...but do they do ok with the occasional pickup and handling?

i dotn want to stress him out so i raelly havent handled Kaa since teh move and also becasu eit was getting close to feeding day!
ill post in a bit after i try when teh klids are gone.
uh oh bell rang..recess is over!

Kaa took his first fuzzy from me jsut a minute ago!
i thawed it, woke him up little, and BAM! it knocked it out of the tongs and wrapped around it crazy fast!

how long do they sqeeze before they actually eat?

melindas Feb 01, 2007 04:29 PM

Most balls like to be handled. I normally After they eat I give them at least 24 hours and I keep it hsort. After 48 you can keep them out longer. All are different as far as the coiling. I have 1 female since she started eating pk she does not even bother to coil, just lines up the head and down it goes. Then again I have another that takes forever will coil for 15 min. They all have thier own style and personality.Glad to hear she ate with gusto..

Slappy, I am glad to hear that Kaa ate. Thats a very good sign. As far as handling I don't think I do much of it at this point. Removing him to clean and perform regular maintainence is fine, keep it to a minimum for the next couple of weeks or so. Let him get good and comfortable with the daily routine and then start holding him for short periods of time. You can increase the lenght of time as he gets more acustom to you and your kids. Right now instinctively every thing is a possible threat in his mind so don't rush him. And hey as far as the typos/spelling does it really matter in a place like this. There are better things to focus on. Like being a good person and treating each other with respect. Keep up the great job.

not to be rude but if you're a school teacher, i think you should work on your spelling. it's necessary not nessisary. the other mistakes in your post i'll chalk up to being typo's. again , i mean no offense, just a little food for thought.

im a horrible typist and i dont get any free time to do this properly due to constant interuptions from my students.

thank you for zeroing in on that and not that i am trying my best to properly care for our new pet.

boobubba Feb 01, 2007 07:01 PM

as i said i wasn't trying to offend you, though i obviously did. i applaud your eagerness to learn the proper care and husbandry of your animal. if only more people put forth that effort before purchasing any type of animal.
i apologize for offending you but the truth of the matter is that i have dealt with my share of,in my opinion, under qualified teachers, especially in the inner city public school systems.now i'm not lumping you into that category,to do so would be foolish without knowing more about your situation. however when it comes to educating our children there are certain things for which i will not tolerate. there are certain things that, based on our career paths, we need to be held to a higher standard than the average person.in your case that would be things like spelling, grammar, math etc. i'm sure you could blast me for errors in grammar in this post. feel free to do so, as i am not a teacher.
my point wasn't so much to criticize you as it was to point out what i think is a continuing and serious problem with education. my child attends a private school for that very reason.
again i meant no offense, but i do love to play devil's advocate.

i understand your post and yes i took it a little harsher than you prob ment it.

take my word that my typing skills do not reflect my teaching skills.

i will try and post when i have time to appropriately check my spelling/grammar

Bubba.......I find that alot of teachers on here have no idea how to type or spell.......I also had a biology teacher that used to come to my house and he really didn't know much about nature and animals......and I could tell he wasn't asking questions just to test me.......(he got fired a few times....hmmm.)......all through high school I can remember that really techers didn't care much and I didn't then either.....I slicked by and didn't worry much about school......biologyII was the only subject I aced....wonder why?.......I think alot of them are way over rated and over paid.......

some are good......some are not overpaid.....I think I met one or two of them ..........????......(* yes Ted you know your stuff ....LOL......but you retired again.)....

Well everyone makes typos even teachers. I cant get over the fact that you go by the name slapnutz. Its great. I hope your students dont discover these post though because lets face it kids can be cruel lol. Some of the Ball Pythons i own and have owned seemed to love to be handled while others did not like it as much. Some would tollerate me to handle them daily for extended periods of time as where others would become kind of skitish after a little bit. I have been told that over handeling a BP can cause them to become stressed and not eat but i have not had this happen (at least not because of over handeling). I am no expert but i have been keeping BP's for 5-6 years now and I swear i learn something new about them everyday. Also i wish i had a teacher that was cool enough to have a snake in the class. I think the best we ever had was a ginnie pig and it wasnt a very nice one at that lol. Keep coming to kingsnake.com and you will in time learn everything you need to know and then some.
