Nose rubbing....

snake_gal Feb 01, 2007 03:30 PM

Hey guys,
My normal bull snake has been rubbing it's nose against her glass for a while now. I never noticed very much till she started waking me up during the night due to the sound of moving dirt. She does not have a sinus problem, otherwise she would be yawning and blowing bubbles through her nose. Yesturday she did not eat when i tried to feed her. Can someone help me? Thanks for any help i can get.

What is the temp, to the best of your knowledge, that your bull is being kept at? High temps can make pits restless at times.

The temp on hot is about 80-85 and cool side is around 70-75.

If it gets up to 85 in that cage, that may be too warm. I would lower the temps a few degrees and see how that works for a few days. Pits do well in somewhat lower temps than what those who have kings or milks have their snakes at.
My snake room is about 81-82, and I have mostly pits.

I doubt heat is the problem. The other bull snake loves its temperatures and it's eating, and not rubbing it's nose. By the way, i separated them both till the other one settles down. The okay one has a heat lamp, and the other has a heat-pad. I tried putting newspaper on the walls a few mins. ago in case it "dosen't believe in glass" which apparently could be the reason why. I appreciate your help. It's tricky.

My cal king sort of does the same thing. Either he doesn't believe in glass like you said, or he is playing with his reflection. I think my king is showing his reflection that he is the better snake.

Is your bullsnake wildcaught or c.b.? What locality are they from? Your bullsnake could be trying to hibernate even though your temps are right it doesn't matter to a snake that wants to hibernate, they'll try to dig their way to China. Kevin

Yea i agree, my bull tunnels her way threw everything and she is always against the glass if there is someone in the room she just loves people!

Very sadly, Cocoa, the bull snake passed away on Feb. 3, 2006. I'm really upset, she was like a part of the family. Why did she have to die so young. May she rest in peace!
