experiment on radio shack temp guns

Southern_Dragons Aug 10, 2003 07:39 PM

Today I had a dragon throw up some and after talking with beginners basics I decided to double check my basking spot temps which led to this experiment on radio shack temp guns.

There was some doubt to the accuracy of the temperature guns so decided to test it. I placed an outdoor thermometer as seen in the picture below and allowed it to warm up to highest temperature which was 112 degrees. Taking measures with temp gun while the basking spot was warming back up to desired temp I found that there was a difference of 1°F between the thermometer and the temp gun where the temp gun was higher

The key to getting very accurate measurements with this device I found however is keeping about 3 inches above what you are measuring.

Tomorrow I will go to Wal-Mart and purchase a digital thermometer so that I can get the results of two independent thermometers Vs. the temp guns and report the findings, however I fell the results will be similar as far as I can tell the temp guns are accurate - 1 °F

Glad to hear that part of the experiment went well. Let us know what you find out
