Reptariums/Screen Cages for Uros

KevinM Feb 01, 2007 04:14 PM

I am curious to see if anyone is successfully using Reptariums or other similar screen cages for use with Uros. The price for the larger sizes is very cheap as opposed to other caging options IMO. I would assume the screen material would keep down humidity, although I am sure heating would be more difficult. Any input would be appreciated!!!

Not only do I think you will find it difficult to maintain temps in a screen cage, I think you will find it almost impossible. Unless you live in a climate close to your Uro's native habitat anyway. There is also the problem of the Uro's claws. Many of them are naturally diggers, and I think the possibility of them getting a finger or toe caught in the screens would be high. Plus they will probably climb the walls.

I have never tried it myself, but it does not seem like the best choice for your Uro. Building your own cage can occasionally be cheaper than buying one, once they outgrow the 40 gallon breeder tank size.

I hope that that helps.
