What is wrong with my Emeralds......??

kammekammo Feb 01, 2007 07:55 PM

Bought a pair of Emeralds 3 weeks ago and in the past week these dark spots have started to appear on both of them.........The female shed a perfect shed last week and looked great. Also the male has been soaking in the water bowl and has been acting more like a water snake than a tree dweller. I know the humidity is right, close to 100% during the day and drops to approx. 65-70% at night with DTH temps around 80 and NTL around 68-70 for the winter cycling. There seems to be enough ventilation the air is not stagnant at all. Here is a pic of the female's neck with a few of them showing......the male is the same way they look more like fungal spots on the male than they do on the female.....any info will help. thanks

Your keeping them way too humid. You have the beginnings of scale rot and if not treated farily quickly, can spiral out of control and you'll wind up losing them. I've found that 60% ambient humidity is what they do well on. Airflow is also key to keeping the environment from going stagnant/moldy. You have to learn to balance the two. If they are dehydrated, give them room temp. water in the form of rain droplets not mist. They respond a whole lot better to rain, because their is a temperature difference between the two. Mist is cooler becuse it doesn't have the thermal mass a rain drop has. Also make sure they have a suitable basking spot to warm themselves up if needed. I would get them to a Vet and start treatment as soon as possible.

i have a few of the same marks on my etb and i was thinking it was from possibly pulling her out of the cage and getting stuck on the branch, thas wy i am trying to set up a new simpler cage than before... could that be it, because her humidity levels were way too low and it was still happening ( another reason for switching the tank...
