Crested Climbing Problem...

Brent_Sydney Feb 01, 2007 09:42 PM

Since I'm on a roll with problems with my baby, I figured why not see if there's anything I can do to help out his climbing! I spray the enclosure plenty and I use a calcium water conditioner in the water I spray the cage with. I was told dehydrated geckos will have poor climbing ability, but I spray him a lot, sometimes 4 times a day. I was wondering if this is common, and if it can be fixed?

There is actually such a thing as spraying too much. You really shouldn't have to spray more than 2 times a day. Once in the morning and once a night. AS for babies, they have a tendancy to have shedding problems, and even though you are spraying alot, it may only be just getting wet in there, not humid. How warm is it in the cage? What do you use for substrate? How small is the gecko? Definately cut down on the spraying though, 4 times a day is too much. Once in the morning and once at night is good. Sometimes you don't even need that much.

Well he's about 6-7 inches, just over a year old. The cage sits at about 77 at the top, and around 70 at the bottom (he's in my room in the basement). I use a green astro turf-like carpet aswell. It may just be getting wet for sure. I'm pretty new to this whole thing. I'll keep it strictly to 2 times a day.

Astro turf or carpet aren't the best substrate for cresties. You are really better off using paper towels.
