Enigmas

CSHerps Feb 01, 2007 11:40 PM

I had just seen the new Enigma morph for the first time last week & was wondering what anyone else knew about them. To my knowledge all I know is Enigmas are there own seperate morph as opposed to a combo morph & there a dominant trait.
Any other input would be great.
Thanks

CSHerps Feb 02, 2007 03:17 PM

Thanks Gazz, those are cool.

Ok, The way I was told is that the RED EYED ENIGMA is the albino form of Enigma... For what ever genetic reason, the albinism is only expressed through the eyes... The rest of the body retains its "natural" non-albino coloration...

I purchased an Enigma from Kelli... I am happy I did... I have a couple of projects in mind...

I don't really know anything about this new morph yet so have nothing to debate about but by the way the orange is glowing compared to the other enigmas on that link i also think that the albinism is also exspessed though the body also to some degree ????? the gene seems to work in a paradox fashion if that the case then the eyes aren't even safe expample later down the line we maybe seeing enigmas with bi-eye-(one albino/one normal) or eyes that are half normal half albino) time will tell ???.

GreggMM Feb 02, 2007 05:51 PM

My source for the info is pretty reliable... That bright orange color is pretty typical of Kellis tangerine lines... I do not think the albinism is expressed anywhere but the eyes... If you have seen the first Enigmas Kelli posted on a different site, you would see what I am talking about... The first red eyed enigmas looked very normal (non-albino) in color and pattern, but the eyes were blood red...

It does not look anything like "paradox" albino reptiles...

Yep i found the others very normal looking with red eyes very cool.I see very confusing time ahead was the glowing tangerine red eyed enigma result of breeding a enigma het albino X hybino electric tangerine or a electric tangerine het albino etc that Killis has ??.But aren't the hatching red eyed enigma wired ? the ones i saw was anyway they do look albino at hatchling age i bet there really cool to watch growing up.

CSHerps Feb 02, 2007 05:53 PM

The Enigma has alot of potential, I wouldn't even know where to start as for breeding projects.
Congrats on getting one. Please show some pics soon.

skmcwilliams Feb 03, 2007 05:19 PM

I wonder what the results would be if bred to a Raptor. I would think that would be the ultimate breeding project right now. Any thoughts?

Also I had a question. I am no genetic expert but I know that the red eye enigma was a product of a enigma x Hybino or at least that's what I was told, but did that electric red eye come from just that pairing or were the babies of that pairing bred back to make the red eye enigma? I know it's a co dom thing but it's hard to believe that the color would morph in to an enigma with the initial breeding. Thanks

It would come out a red eyed Enigma on the first breeding if the one of the animals was an albino bell and the other was an Enigma het for bell albino or a red eyed Enigma... Like I said, the red eyed Enigma is an albino that does not express the albino trait in the body color... It just shows up in the eyes...

I would imagine it is a type of occular albinism but you need to have the Enigma genetics in order for it to work...

skmcwilliams Feb 03, 2007 06:43 PM

Just curious, why does it have to be the bell line? Is the enigma a bell line

skmcwilliams Feb 03, 2007 06:47 PM

Oh wait, I think I just figured it out. The enigmas she has are already het for bell albino, right? Guess I should walk around my room before I post questions

GreggMM Feb 03, 2007 08:21 PM

The Enigmas originated from the Bells... I believe all the Enigmas are poss het bell albino...

From what I understand, you can produce red eyed Enigmas using any of the three albino strains...

skmcwilliams Feb 05, 2007 01:37 PM

Thanks GreggMM for all your useful info. I have decided to purchase an Enigma as well from Kelli. Absolutely can't wait to get her as I believe they are such a gorgeous morph. My question is being sent to everyone who wants to help me. What male should I pair up with an Enigma female to make the most awesome offspring possible? GreggMM, I understand if you don't want to add your 2 cents since your working on this project also

GreggMM Feb 05, 2007 07:44 PM

To tell you the truth, I have not fully made up my mind which male I will be pairing my girl up with yet... I am either leaning towards my giant tangerine tremper albino or my hypo mack snow..

To be honest, I think any pairing will be sweet...

GreggMM Feb 05, 2007 07:45 PM

I have no idea why my gaboon pics were posted...

CSHerps Feb 05, 2007 08:12 PM

I was wondering the same thing. They look nice though.

CSHerps Feb 05, 2007 08:10 PM

I'm glad to see people getting into Enigmas. I would think about coughing up the money getting one for myself if I hadn't spent too much on Ball Pythons just prior to seeing them for sale a couple of weeks ago.
I would be curious to see how an Enigma breed into a line trait like SHT or Red-Stripes would turn out. Just my 2 cents.
Congrats again & show pics ASAP.

skmcwilliams Feb 05, 2007 09:08 PM

Thanks Everybody. I am excited about this. I have had my eye on a Aptor male because he has amazing body color but I am not sure if I should cough up the extra money and get a Raptor just to get the full red eyes. Since the Enigma is already het for bell albino will it matter if it's a Raptor or an Aptor? Thanks everyone for your help. And GreggMM, I LOVE the snakes...

GreggMM Feb 06, 2007 11:23 AM

Thanks... They are my favorite snakes... I do not keep large Bitis anymore... Too big and messy... LOL

I am focusing on the smaller Atheris species... And ofcorse my leo projects...

Congratulations on getting an Enigma... Which one did you get... The one I got is the one with "SOLD GM" next to it...

skmcwilliams Feb 06, 2007 11:31 AM

Nice one. The one I got is right next to yours that says sold KM. I am super excited about this project, I can't wait to get her in so I can put her through her Isolation phase and then hopefully make some gorgeous babies, still not sure what I am going to pair her up with, guess I better decide soon

GreggMM Feb 06, 2007 12:37 PM

That one would have been my second choice... Lucky for you I did not have $3000 handy... LOL... The one I picked was the one that "Jumped" out at me when I looked at the page...
I was surprized (and very happy) to see she was not sold yet...

Kelli is really sweet and a pleasure to do buisiness with... To be honest, I would not be comfortable dropping that much on a leo if it was being sold by another breeder...

skmcwilliams Feb 06, 2007 11:02 PM

Hi

It's funny because my girl jumped out at me, I guess we all ended up getting what we wanted. LOL...My husband wanted to buy me diamond earings for Valentines day, but I talked him into getting me this leo instead. I guess I am not a typical woman

Your right about Kelli, I had never dealt with them before but had only heard rave reviews about them, and so far everything has gone great.

Anyway you will have to update us once you start getting some gorgeous offspring from your girl, so we can see what happens, and I'll do the same. Good luck.
