cleaning basking rocks and wood perchs

LarrysMom Aug 10, 2003 08:04 PM

What are the prefered methods for cleaning these things?? I remember reading about bleach solutions and heating wood in the oven but I don't remember the details and can't find them in a search.
Thanks,
Sherrie
P.S. We bought a used tank and it came with a nice piece of wood from a turtle set up. The wood almost looks like cork. Do you think it is safe to use for a beardie??

i like to bake things..but i have used both methods before..i don't no if these methods are used by everyone else.. it may vary as far as how long and how hot.. but you get the gist.

methods

1. use a 1/10 bleach to water ratio and soak rocks, wood, etc for thirty mins and then let air dry.
2. bake the rocks or wood on a cookie sheet at 350 for 15-20 mins..

and cork bark is great for beardies just make sure you disinfect like everything else... my spike loves his cork bark he sleeps behind it at night and hangs on it all day

I use the bleach method. I let them soak for about 3 hrs or so, then I let them soak in plain water (after rinsing them off)for about a half hour, then I set them outside in the sun for about a couple hours. Thats pretty much my routine. Hope this helps. Good luck!
