Two Questions for the Experts

Question 1: I am buying a bigger cage for my GTP - who is about to turn 2 years old - I don't the sex but we call him a he. Verdi has always perched as high up as he can get in the cage and I am wondering if for his new cage I should focus on getting a taller cage because he likes being up higher or if he'll be just as "at home" at the top of a shorter but wider cage. I think the shorter wider cage will be better for maintaining a good temperature range - but is he trying to tell me higher is better by perching at the top - does it matter or am I reading too much into his neurosis? I had to move all the perches in his old cage up because he kept perching on the thermostat cable and vine holder at the top of the cage instead of using his perches.

Question 2: You guys are pretty good at this - can anyone tell what local he is? His parents are both unknown locals - I would guess Aru but I don't know these things.

Thanks everyone!

A whole body shot would make it easier. I don't think having a higher cage will matter. Chondros will most likely go to the highest spot no matter how tall it is, or even if the temps are not ideal. The higher it is, the harder it will be to get a decent gradient for them or to keep the floor temps within a reasonable range. They do occasionally go to ground. I'd just go with a longer cage with a 24 X 24 depth and width. I'm going to be making my cages 36" long for my adults. It's about the max size that Greg M. suggests that you can still maintain a temperature and humidity in easily.

Thanks Meg -

Here are a couple of body shots - oh and the little brown stick is not a permanent perch - just a temporary one that I use to move him in and out of his cage on cleaning day.

Belly shot
