WC Gopher ate FT!!!

btorgy Feb 02, 2007 06:56 PM

Hey all! My little male wc Sonoran Gopher ate twice for me today! I just got him a week ago, and pretty much set him up and left him alone for a week. Today he started to move around a little, so I thought I'd just go for it! I decided to try a f/t fuzzy, as I have some that are dark colored. I woke up the snake and placed him on top of his substrate, then let him go so he would relax. I offered him the fuzzy on tongs, and could tell he was interested. Finally, he took it, but he wasn't aggressively swallowing it. So I used the tongs and jiggled it a bit, and he swallowed it quick! I read you could follow through with another right away, so I offered a f/t white hopper, which he took straight away! After a big drink and swim in his water dish he retreated under his cork bark, where he is seemingly content. As am I! I always feel so much better after they eat the first time for me!
Yeah!!!!

Great to hear! Good that he's eating for you. Gophers are usually chow hogs. Never had one go in the water dish before though.

Well, as far as I know this is his first experience with a water dish! Not sure he realized what it was, he was drinking and kept moving forward till his nose hit the side of the bowl, then followed the circle till he was completely in the water! He soon found his way out though. At least I know he is well hydrated now!
