Red Rainbow Boas Question

johnmartino Feb 03, 2007 08:19 AM

Which locale of Rainbow Boas are considered the reddest? Are there any breeders which are known for there red Rainbow Boas? Also any pics would be appreciated. I am thinking of acquiring some Rainbow boas but would like really red ones. Thanks, John Martino

John,
...There is some element of luck in picking them for color. Babies can be very pretty but often BRBs get better looking later. It is sometimes difficult to predict which ones will turn out the reddest. Generally the reddest parents will throw the reddest babies but there is MUCH variation within litters. Look for a baby that is from bright red parents and has plenty of red coloration with not too much dark pigment. Dark pigmented babies often look great at 18 months of age but get too dark later in life. On the other hand lightly pigmented orange babies usually continue to get prettier throughout their lives. There are many breeders producing really red ones. At this time of year the selection is much less than it was during the late summer. Look at the classifieds here on kingsnake.com and see what is currently available. If you cannot find one that suits you I would look at the websites of the breeders over the next few months and then ask one or two of them to put you on the list for their reddest 2007 babies.

Ok, thanks. My buddy is into the orange ones but i am definately partial to the red ones. Someone mentioned to me that Peruvian Rainbow boas are redder than BRBs. Is that true at all?
