Double Het Projects?

rugha Feb 03, 2007 09:51 AM

Wondering what thoughts are on some 1/16 snake projects and if it is worth getting into.

Thinking about VPI axanthic x Nerd Line Orange Ghost and VPI axanthic x Albino.

True Ghost and Snow. Anyone know if the TRUE ghost has been produced. I know the snows have, but I never see one for sale.

Think it is worth the effort? And what is the male to female ratio that one needs to hit?

Thanks

The true Ghost project, in my opinion, is worth doing. The snow is not, simply because there are so many white snakes now. That is just my opinion.

Dave

What about an axanthic pied?

The reason I am asking is because I have a male vpi axanthic, female orange ghost, female albino, and female pied, most of which are 06's. Just wondering if I should in the future, purchase some homo males for the albino and pied.

Thanks

WJ

With the snakes you have I would go for the axanthic pied. Just look at RDR's Lavander Albino Pied and you will know that double hets are definitely worth working with. I would bet this season we will really start seeing a lot of double homozygous animals produced and that is going to make people want the double hets.

I would not do an Axanthic Pied project. The Axanthic projects that you see pics of are of baby animals. I personally do not think an adult Axanthic Pied would be anything special. Axanthic Pastel, yes, Axanthic Ghost, yup, maybe even an Axanthic Sable.

Once again dave I am going to at least partly agree with you.
But first I am going to disagree. Pied anything is cool. Although the Spied is not my favorite. I like pieds that are 30-50% white. Now for the agreement. Pastel Axanthic is an essential building block for my all-time favorite The Axanthic Bee/Killer Bee. Get your self a pastel and spider and go to it.
But hey, I would put him with what ever You got.

While I agree that Pied anything is cool, if it does not produce a nicer snake than the original, and I do not think that an Axanthic Pied will be nicer than the original Pied, at least not as an adult, I would not "waste" a Pied or an Axanthic, on a Pied and Axanthic cross. Just my opinion. BUT, I do not like the Albino Spider either, but love the Hypo Spider.

Now you gone to far. I love the albino spider and can't wait to produce one. I know what your saying about better then the original. But if you had an Axanthic male and three simple recessive female, none of which match your males genetics what would you do? Oh and this is where I trash your projects. NOT!

I really like Spiders, but the faint pattern on the Albino Spider just does not do it for me. I also like the faint green tint to the original Spider, so for me, it is original or Ghost Spider I think alot of Axanthic projects will turn out just ok, especially as adults. I would like to see an Axanthic Cinn or Sable, but that is just me. A high gold animal, why not make it more gold, instead of dingy brown as an adult, which is what I think ANY line of Axanthic will do to the Pied.

I could be wrong but it is my understanding you could drop him in with each of them.

Getting another male is no problem, just wondering what people think about various projects. As far as the snow goes, I see the point. The white snake was the point in making dh snows, but now you can produce white snakes MUCH easier.

So I think I will just get me an albino male down the road.

I really think the TRUE ghost will be a killer. I also have a female spider I can breed the axanthic too as well - axanthic spiders are cool and producing one, or perhaps an axanthic bee would be awesome.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

That sounds like a good plan. When you get an Albino, make him a 10. Look around, all Albinos are NOT created equal.

We are currently working with
DBL het Clown/ O. Ghosts
DBL het G.Stripe / O. ghosts
and DBL het Caramel Albino / Lavander Albinos..
I think the lavander caramel is going to be amazing...

I think that the true ghost and snow is a good project, We are not breeding for snows this year b/c they are not that much in demand but they are still one of my favorite white snakes and we will be breeding for them in the future..
Kim
Good luck with your projects

What's taking the true ghost (i.e. axanthic hypomelanistic, aka "ghost" project so long? Have the double hets just not produced many clutches yet or is it looking like the two genes might be linked on the same chromosome making the crossover to make the combo possible a much longer shot than 1 in 16?
