Chahoua locals?

Smith710 Feb 03, 2007 11:08 PM

Is there a way to tell the difference between the two different locals? Like, say someone was selling a pine island chahoua.... How do you know if it is really a pine island chahoua and not a mainland???? I have been trying to find the answer to this forever but I can't find anything!

Went though my Rhac book about the differences between Grand Terre and Pine Isle' Chahouas and there doesn't seem to be any easy way to tell them apart. In the book it indicates the Pine's Isles version tends to be more patterned than the mainland with a tendancy to grow slightly larger in captivity. Other than that, no real distinct way to tell them apart.

With both having a variety of variations within each population, it just makes it more difficult. Even looking at the pictures in the Rhac book, if it wasn't labeled Pine Isles and Mainland, I wouldn't be able to tell which was which. The pattern to me, in the Pine isles seems to be a bit more 'busy' than in the mainland versions but this isn't consistent, as other pictures, the pattern looks more 'blotchy'.

I think the only way you will know for sure which version you have is to send good clear pictures to the big breeders of these geckos or you can just post them here and we can all give our best opinions (not that there aren't experts here too, as many of the big breeders do post or read these forums on a regular basis).

Alright, well I'm definately getting it now, I'm just waiting on it. I live in New York and the weather sucks right now and the person I am getting it from keeps getting snowed in. So hopeful for tomorrow.
thanks
