I have a 4'7" black rat that I will be getting rid of after this breeding season. Right now she is in a 106 qt. sterilite container. Should she be ok in a 29 gallon tank for the next 3 months? I am wanting something she can move in (although the 106 qt. is still slightly cramped) And I don't want to spend $100 building her a tank that will be vacant after a few months. At least with the 29 gallon I can put more fish in there after she is gone. I am getting the 29 gallon, the oak stand, the filter, heater, and hood for $100. So will she fit?

She should be fine. By the general rule of thumb, a 29 would be big enough for any North American ratsnake. I don't necessarily agree with this, though. A 29 is the same as a 20, but 6 inches higher. Be sure to use that space.

Is she wild caught? If she's wild caught, that cage will probably be too small. WCs tend to require MUCH more space. Was it on here that someone had a WC that rubbed in a 40 breeder? Or am I thinking of the wrong site?

Give it a try. That's a GREAT price for a 29, and you could turn around & sell it for the same price(or more!) afterwards if it doesn't work out. Or, like you said, use it for something else.

I have used 32 quart boxes for rats and pits up to almost 5 ft., Never a problem. However, I do agree that if she is wild caught, bigger is better, less stress. Another solution, one that has worked for me many times. I start checking the classified ads in local papers and online as well as all local pet stores. I've picked up used 60 gallon tanks, including one that had triple thick glass, for as little as $30. You can build a stand for about $10 or close to it.

Yes,
It was mentioned in another response but you can utilize the extra height.
Add a shelf and a tall branch or vines to provide added tank usage.
