Light Watt Question

rottenweiler9 Feb 04, 2007 07:18 AM

I have a 6ft AP cage. What is the highest Watt Bulb I can use in there for my snakes without buring their skin? I was told to only use a 50 watt in the vision cages because how close the light was to the ground.

Thank you

Jeff

Wattage depends on many things: ambient (background) temps of the room the cage is in, size of cage, size of animal, kind of animal (burm I assume), etc. Personally, I would much rather use a radiant heat panel (like Pro Product's that I use almost exclusively) as it provides a much larger basking surface for large snakes like burms (it also is a gentler heat so that you don't have to worry about overheating the cage). The vision shrouds are set very low but even so, for example, I use a 100 watt power sun for my monitors and they do fine.
