striped mud turtle help!!!!

i have just accumulated a new striped mud turtle and he doesnt seem to swim he floats on the top of the water and will not go down. its this normal?
what should i do

Striped Muds, like most Kinosternids, usually like to walk underwater on the bottom. The floating may indicate a respiratory infection. Is he feeding? Sounds like a visit to the vet.
